Obituary for William Kniss
William “Roger” Kniss, 80, of Bellevue, IL, passed away peacefully at 5:20pm on March 14, 2011 at his residence with family at his side. He was born November 19, 1930, in Monmouth, IL to Delber and Edna Kniss. Both preceded him in death. He married Betty D. Kniss on July 7, 1957. She survives. He is also survived by one brother; Jack Kniss of Riverside, California. He leaves behind three children; David Kniss of Galesburg, IL, Rogann Doering of Bellevue, IL, and Jeffrey Kniss of Bartonville, IL. His daughter, Lisa Kniss, preceded him in death. Other survivors include his 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was a Korean combat veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953, and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a union meat-cutter for Kroger Company for 41 years until his retirement in 2009. He had a great love for his two dogs, Dudley and Pug. Roger had a lifelong passion and love for animals, and enjoyed spending time with all of them. He was a faithful Christian, who enjoyed reading scripture and practicing its values. Roger was a very generous and kind man who was loved and cherished by many people and will be missed dearly. The most important thing to him was his family, and the impression he left on them will carry on. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the TAPS no kill animal shelter in Pekin, IL in Roger’s name. Cremation rites have been accorded. Per Roger’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Friends and family will be received at his son’s home at 114 N. Lafayette in Bartonville, IL on Saturday March 19, 2011 from 12 to 5pm.
