Obituary for Vernell Thompson
Vernell Thompson 85, of Pekin passed away on Tuesday July 29, 2008 at Timber Creek Rehab in Pekin. Born in Pekin on June 2, 1923 to Charles and Martha Deuth Thompson. He married Carmilla Menssen in Pekin in March of 1953, she survives along with his sons; Steve (Nancy) and Michael Thompson both of Pekin, brother Melvin (Jo) Thompson also of Pekin and his 5 grand and 2 great grandchildren. One grandson preceded him in death. Vernell served in the U.S. Marines during WWII and received the Bronze Star and worked as a Carpenter, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles and the Carpenter Local in East Peoria. A funeral service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin on Friday August 1, at 10 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Father Timothy Nolan will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph School. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Abts Mortuary.
