Obituary for Roger Louis Simmons
Roger Louis Simmons, 56, of Pekin passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born March 6, 1966, in Belleville to Ralph and Patricia Hughes Simmons. His parents preceded him in death.
He married Cynthia “Cindy” Wight; she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Audrey (fiancée, Andy Johnson) Simmons; stepsons, Kenny (Brittney) Butterfield, Kyle (Brittany) Butterfield; brothers, Robert Simmons, Ron (Vicki) Simmons, Richard (Rosemary) Simmons; sister, Robin (Craig) Scholl and granddaughters, Rylin Butterfield, Savannah Butterfield, and Elsie Butterfield.
Roger was a loving husband and was Cindy’s caretaker for many years. Roger and Cindy were married for over 21 years and each other’s best friends. He was a loving father, stepfather, and grandfather.
Roger served in the U.S. Marines. He worked at Vision Quest, which is an alternative program to juvenile detention and to help previously incarcerated youth transition back into society. Roger always said that there was a boy that he helped while working at Vision Quest, that he had taken a liking to because he greatly improved his life by going through this program and that if he had a son, he would have named his son after this boy.
Cremation has been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to TAPS no kill animal shelter at 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, IL 61554 in his name.
