Obituary for Rodger Jones
Rodger S. Jones, 86, of Peoria passed away on July 2, 2014 at Proctor Hospital. He was born September 13, 1927 to William J. and Cathryn (Dien) Jones in Chillicothe, IL. He married Phyllis J. Sheets on September 2, 1949 in Chillicothe. She passed on September 4, 2001. He married Rita Jones on November 5, 2005. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters. Also surviving are his children, Jenny (Mike) Hartter of Chillicothe, Rodger (Suzanne) Jones of Ft. Worth, TX, Gary (Phuong) Jones of Peoria Heights; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Rodger enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17 in 1944. He served in the South Pacific and the occupation of China until 1947. He was recalled to duty in 1950-1951 during the Korean War. He fought in the Wonsan-Hungnam-Chosin Campaign, Northern Korea. He was a member of the Dunlap American Legion Post 1078 for fifty years. Rodger was a barber in Dunlap for many years and after retirement worked part time for Kiwanis London House in Peoria. He was a great father and grandfather. There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will be accorded. Memorials may be made to donor’s choice.
