Obituary for Michael Mabrey
Michael (Mike) Mabrey, 54, of Creve Coeur passed away peacefully at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 10 p.m. with his family by his side.

Born in Peoria, Il on May 14, 1963 to George and Doris Wilson Mabrey. He was a graduate of East Peoria High School.

Mike is survived by his Mother and second father Darwin Morgan of Mackinaw, one sister Jane(Jim) Snyder of Trivoli, two sons, Holden Mabrey of Creve Coeur, Tyler Mabrey of Pekin, and one daughter, Ashlei Chown of Manito. Four Grandchildren, Grace Mabrey, Ethan Thome, Sicilee Chown, Baylyn Chown, and five special nieces and nephews, (Ryan, Cassie, Nathan, Dylan, and Dustin, and 6 great nieces and nephews (that he considered to be his bonus grandchildren) Abby, Aaron, Kaitlyn, Emily, Kainen, and Sydney. Also surviving are two step-brothers, Larry and Darrin Morgan, and three step sisters, Carolyn Elmore, JoAnn Benway, and Angie Yeater all of Mackinaw, and many cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Daryl Mabrey.

Mike fought a long and courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy and Heart Disease. He fought his way back to recovery many times to the amazement of the doctors and the elation of his family. He proudly wore an LVAD for 5 years to assist his own heart. He then passed his body to Gift Of Hope so that others might benefit and hoped that his eyes could go see the places he was unable to physically travel to.

Mike loved hunting, fishing, leather work, building and flying RC planes, and building and painting detail ship models. He was also certified in the martial arts of Tae Kwon Do. When his disability limited one hobby, he found the amazing strength to move on to another. He also completed a 'Bucket List' event last fall to travel out West and visit North and South Dakota Badlands and see Devils Tower.

The family would like to express their loving appreciation to son Holden, his primary caregiver and constant companion, who kept Mike’s spirits up and gave him reason to stay the course, until God was ready for him to come home.

Cremation Rites have been accorded with a private Memorial Service. Burial of his remains will be in Fondulac Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Creve Coeur Christian Church who ministered pastoral services and prayer with Mike and family during his final flight home.
