Obituary for Mary Roby
Mary “Avis” Roby 82, of South Pekin passed away on Thursday June 2, 2011 at her residence with family by her side. She was born in Deanfield, KY on August 10, 1928 to Raymond and Lillian Phillips Axley. She married William Gregory Roby on September 27, 1952. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2008. Her parents, son James “Eddy” Roby and brother Charles Axley also preceded her in death. She is survived by her children: Tony (Melodie) Roby of Pekin, Sharon (Steve) Friedrich of Green Valley, Teresa (Phillip) Friedrich of Green Valley, Charles Roby of Tampa, FL, Diana (Jeff) Oden of Green Valley, Alan Roby of South Pekin and her 8 grand and 7 great-grandchildren. Mary was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was a member of the Council of Catholic Women and she also handcrafted rosaries for missions. She loved music and loved to sing harmony with her children. She loved to cheer for the Chicago Cubs against her husband’s wishes who was an avid Cardinal Fan. She loved nature and gardening while painting and poetry were two other activities that brought her joy. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin on Monday June 6, 2011 at 10am. Father James Pankiewicz will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. Visitation will be held at Abts Mortuary in Pekin on Sunday June 5, 2011 from 5pm to 7pm with the recitation of the Rosary at 7pm. Memorials may be made in her name to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. She was a strong and loving mother and friend and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
