Obituary for Martha Baker
Martha F. Baker, 85, of Washington, IL passed away Saturday December 10, 2011 at her residence. She was born March 15, 1926 in Memphis, TN to Ernest and Alta Ferguson Charnes. She married Virgil Baker Jr. in 1948 in Melrose Park, IL. He preceded her in death in 2007, she was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Marvin and William and sister, Marilyn. Martha was most proud of being able to say that she had “two good boys” in her sons, Dennis Baker of Manito, IL and Thomas Baker of Creve Coeur, IL. She is also survived by two grandsons, Jonathon and Dennis and three great-grandchildren. Martha was an extremely talented seamstress and had a passion for sewing and needlework her entire life. Her beautiful afghans were much appreciated gifts to friends and family and her closets were full of her hand sewn garments. One of her favorite things to do was taking her bus trips to the casinos with her friends. She was sharp witted and had her great sense of humor every day of her life and she will be greatly missed. Cremation has been accorded and no services will be held. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in her memory, or the favorite charity of the donor’s choice.
