Obituary for Lloyd Glasford
Lloyd Dean Glasford, Sr., 93 of Mapleton passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011 while surrounded by family at his home in Mapleton. He was born December 30, 1917, in Mapleton, and was the son of John and Milanie Glasford. He married Lucy Chiotte on August 20th, 1941. She survives. Also surviving are four children, Audrey (Nate) McNary of Mapleton, Lloyd (Cathy) Glasford, Jr. of Georgia, John (Julie) Glasford of South Dakota and Mark (Judy) Glasford of South Dakota, two sisters Opal Whitlow of Pekin and Bessie Buhs of Bellevue, many grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and one granddaughter. Lloyd served in the US Navy throughout WWII aboard the USS Elliot, the USS Mamo and as a gunnery instructor in Washington DC during the war. After the war, he went to work at Keystone Steel & Wire as a maintenance electrician. He retired from Keystone Steel & Wire Company in 1974. After retiring, Lloyd & Lucy enjoyed traveling throughout the country visiting their children, fishing, hunting and seeing the sights of the US.  He was a very loving husband, father and friend. An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed the outdoors and also liked gardening and farming. He was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin with burial to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. Fr. Timothy Nolan will officiate. Visitation will be at Abts Mortuary in Pekin on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice- Peoria and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
