Obituary for Laurence Lopez Jr.
Laurence Jay Lopez, Jr., 90, of Peoria passed away peacefully Sunday, January 1, 2017 at home with his family by his side. He was born February 19, 1926 in Donaldsonville, LA; one of 15 children. He was a proud World War II Veteran serving as a Navy Signalman; one of seven brothers all serving during World War II. After the war he moved to Peoria, where he married Dorothy Hankins in 1951; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Douglas (Linda) Lopez, Gordon (Melinda) Lopez, Guy Lopez, Michael (Mindy) Lopez, Becky (Mike) Agee; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Jay worked as a heat and frost insulator for Local 17 until retiring in 1986. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend; he will be greatly missed. He loved to fish, hunt and play cards. Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life will be held Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge 265 in Peoria.
