Obituary for Juanita “Port” von Seeger
Peoria - Juanita “Port” von Seeger 83, of Peoria died December 15, 2007 at Methodist Hospital in Peoria. Born in Monmouth on January 15, 1924, to Fred H. and Gertrude Ralston-Porter, she married Herbert F. von Seeger on September 22, 1953, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He died November 30, 1966. She also was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, one in infancy. Surviving is one nephew William L. Leaverton of Henderson, Tennessee. She was a 1945 graduate of Methodist School of Nursing. In 1950, she became one of the original staff nurses of the American Red Cross Regional Blood Program. She retired as Chief Nurse in 1968. She was later employed by the Peoria County Health Department as a Clinical Nurse. In 1987, she received “Nurse of the Year” awarded by the University of Illinois College of Medicine Residents in Family Practice at Methodist Medical Center. Cremation has been accorded and there will be no services. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Peoria Humane Society.
