Obituary for Jo R. Maddox
Jo R. Maddox 82, of Pekin passed away on Monday September 29, 2008 at her home. Born in Pekin on April 11, 1926 to Arthur and Madalyne Bodi Riviere. She married Harris Maddox in Pekin on January 20, 1951, he preceded her in death on December 13, 1991. Also preceding are her son Michael, daughter Madalyne and her sister Anita Marie Rivieve. Jo is survived by her children; William (Lori) Maddox of Pekin, Paula (Richard) Applegate of Peoria, grandchildren; Rebecca (Brad) Aschenbrenner, Bethany Riddle, Andrew Maddox and great grandchildren Brittan Aschenbrenner and Lindsey Riddle. Jo worked as an Office Manager at K-mart, retiring in 1992. She volunteered for many organizations’ and instilled the love of community is her children. Jo was a Boy Scouts of America Den Mother, Girls Scouts of America Cadet scout leader, Tutor of Math for the Pekin YWCA GED program and ICC GED Math program, volunteered at the American Red Cross, Tissue Services and Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation, Tissue Services and in Mexico, MO was an Blood Chairman for the American Red Cross and a Pink Lady for Audrain Country Hospital. She enjoyed traveling to Europe and made multiple trips to Germany, Austria, France and Italy where she was able to meet her great uncle Spirito Isorardi and his descendents who still reside in the Piedmont Region of Northern Italy. Her love of travel she also passed on to her children. Sorry mom you did not get to use that last passport I made you renew. She had a passion for reading; mystery books, the newspaper cover to cover, and especially cook books. Besides her passion for reading, her love of music was clearly evident in her voice. Leading Christmas carols for her children was an annual event looked forward to by her family. Her piano, still in use and in tune, occupies a place of honor. She passed those passions to her children. She will be missed by many! Jo was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church were a funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. Father Pat Fixsen will officiate and burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. There will be no visitation. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pekin Public Library in her name. Abts Mortuary has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
