Jerry Hosler, 84, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at Buehler Home in Peoria, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hosler; one brother, Thomas Hosler of Huntington, Ind.; and two sisters, Nancy Kaiser of Bloomington, Ind., and Jane Patterson of Ray Township, Mich.
Jerry was born on a farm in Huntington, Ind., to Kathryn (Shultz) Hosler and Eldon E. Hosler. He graduated from Union Township High School in Huntington and received his Bachelor of Science degree at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio.
Jerry loved life. He never missed a day of school and was beside his Dad in the fields until he could reach the tractor pedals himself. After college, he taught secondary math and science while coaching basketball and track. He launched his career in computer science working for Control Data Corp. before moving to Peoria to work for Caterpillar.
A talented craftsman, he restored his landmark old neighborhood home and landscaped the picket-fenced garden. Entertaining family and friends around the dining room table was always a priority.
A good Hoosier, basketball was his favorite sport. He biked and skied in the mountains, dove in the Florida Keys and fished in Alaska. Jerry piloted his small plane for 10 years, flying to be with family or help others reach a destination. A yearly highlight was his annual golfing trip with good friends. Once a year, for many years, he ran mile after mile raising money for the children of St. Jude.
The family appreciates the wonderful attention and care given by each and every member of the staff at Buehler Home.
Jerry will be buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ellsworth, Wis. Services will be private.
