Obituary for Jamie R. Carney

Jamie R. Carney, 51, of Deer Creek passed away Friday, March 17, 2023, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born July 27, 1971, in Peoria to Charles (Chuck) and Mary Jo Carney-Nelson. His parents and brother, Ray Nelson preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Brittany Carney, Jared Carney, Maci Carney, Jameson Carney; grandchildren, Ayden, Aysliee, Bentley; stepmother, Jessie Carney; siblings, Scott (Brenda) Carney, Jessica (Gerard) Forde, Elizabeth Nelson, John (Kimberly) Nelson and many nieces and nephew.

Jamie loved his children and grandchildren. Jamie also enjoyed coaching his children's youth sports. He was a loyal friend and protector of his family and friends.

In 2022, Jamie volunteered to join the Ukrainian Foreign Legion. He fought to help those oppressed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Jamie had plans to return to the Ukraine later this year.

Jamie was a professional boxer, and later became a professional MMA fighter. He also loved watching UFC fights.
