Obituary for James (Jim) Bruce Snyder

James Bruce Snyder (Jim), 72, of Morton, IL passed away on January 6, 2023, at Reflections Memory Care in Morton. He was born November 24, 1950, in Peoria, IL, to Donald and Barbara Wertin Snyder. He married Diane Schlenker on August 2, 1969. He is survived by his wife Diane, son Bruce Snyder (Janene McCabe) of Louisville, CO, and son Michael Snyder (Jessica) of Banner, IL. Also surviving are grandchildren Jade Snyder and Bailey Snyder of Louisville, Colorado; step-grandchildren Chelsea Zortman, Glasford, IL, and Daniel Murphy, Canton, IL; one step-great-grandchild Silas, Glasford, IL. Also surviving are siblings Suzanne (John) Saltiel, Bozeman, MT; Linda Snyder, Palatine, IL; John (Joy) Snyder, Eureka, IL; Brenda (Jim) Zinkhon, East Peoria, IL; several nieces and nephews.


Jim attended Calvin Coolidge Grade School, Roosevelt Jr. High School, and Peoria Central High School. He completed a six year commitment with the US Army Reserves beginning in 1969.


He worked 40 years at Caterpillar Tractor Co. where he completed a machinist apprenticeship. He retired in 2008, began golfing again and also spending time at the couple’s cabin on Musser Flowage, Phillips, WI.


The family has much gratitude for the staff at Reflections in Morton for taking care of Jim this past 20 months.


A memorial service will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 201 W. Chicago St., Morton, on January 14, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon and fellowship.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Transitions Hospice, or All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Morton.


The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
