Obituary for James Houze Sr.
James Richard Houze Sr., 74, of Washington passed away Friday, May 17, 2019 at his residence. He was born December 2, 1944 in Peoria to Lloyd E. and Phyllis B. Hinton Houze. He married Victoria Marie Bayler on December 3, 2010; she survives. He is survived by his children, James (Jessica) Houze Jr., Michele (Alan) Schoenbein; step-children, Becky (Steve) Summer, Bob Julien; grandchildren, Sammy Kay Houze, Tiffany (Matt) Morrison, Kristen Julien, Megan Julien, Shelby Summer, Spencer Summer; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Greyson; siblings, Patsy (Bob) Pullium, Nancy Pullium and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Kay Leonard who preceded him in death in 2005 and brother, Charles Houze. James served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He worked for Kemp Manufacturing; retiring in 2008. James loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren, his dogs, Butterscotch, Daisy, Oakley and his cat, Minnie. He was a dedicated coach especially the softball league. He was an outgoing and funny person. He loved car shopping and was a Minnesota Vikings fan. Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the American Legion Post #100 in Washington from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Private family burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Northern Tazewell Recreation Association in his name.
