Obituary for Howard Derby
Howard Earl Derby Jr, 68, returned to the arms of his heavenly father at 7:15am on January 14th, 2018 at Sunset Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Canton, IL.

Howard was born November 18th, 1949 in Dansville, NY to Howard Earl Derby Sr. and Genevieve (Van Ness) Derby. They preceded him in death, along with his brother, Raymond Derby, two unborn children and three unborn grandchildren.

He married Pamela Dickenson then later married Connie Hamm. They both survive.
Also surviving are four children: Matt Derby of Hornell, NY, Heather Derby Sanders of Dansville NY, Joshua Derby (Kellee Wempen) of Canton, IL and Adam (Cassie) Derby of Canton IL; three grandchildren Cameron Derby, Cody Derby, and McKenzie Derby; and several nieces and nephews.

Howard held various jobs during his life. He was a welder for Foster-Wheeler in Dansville, NY; he worked for the railroad in New York state; He was a bookkeeper for Farm & Home Reality in Lewistown; Telemarketer for APAC.

Howard was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Canton, IL. His faith was very important to him. He held a variety of positions in the church such as Branch Clerk and various positions in the Branch Presidency throughout his life.

Howard was a self-proclaimed hippie throughout all of his life. His greatest claim to fame was being in attendance for the original Woodstock concert in 1969. Howard was an avid storyteller often retelling stories of his childhood and life to his family.

His hobbies included playing the guitar and writing songs, writing poetry, reading and last but not least cheering on his beloved New York Yankees every season.

The family would like to offer a very special thanks to the staff of Sunset Rehabilitation and Health Care Center and the staff of VITAS healthcare for making sure that Howards final days were comfortable.

There will be no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded. The family of Howard E. Derby would like to invite everyone who knew him all to a celebration of life in his honor. The celebration will take place Tuesday March 27th, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Canton IL
