Herbert John Bergman, Jr., 74, of Washington, IL passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
He was born in Chicago, IL, on August 16, 1947, the son of Herbert and Frances Bergman.
Herb graduated from Washington Community High School and attended SIU.
During the Vietnam War he served as an Army medic and was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart for valor.
Herb worked as a laborer and cement finisher for H. J. Bergman Builders.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Greg; his brothers-in-law, Steve Nieukirk and Jim Taylor, and his niece, Kim Nieukirk Eccles.
Surviving are his siblings, Alice Nieukirk, Larry (Carol) Bergman, Carol (Jim) Gee, Joyce Bergman-Taylor, and Ken Bergman, along with several nieces and nephews.
Herb loved his family, the Chicago White Sox, his many pets through the years, and telling a good story. He will be missed.
Cremation has been accorded and no services will be held.
Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project in his memory.
