Obituary for Gordon Hamilton
Gordon Lee Hamilton, 52, of Peoria passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Fondulac Nursing Home in East Peoria.

Gordon was the only child of his parents, Donald and JoAnn Hamilton. His father died four years ago. His mother is here today. He was born Friday, December 3, 1965 and lived all of his life here in Peoria. He liked being active without ever playing sports himself. He was strong and energetic. Gordon started grade school at Whittier. At the time his favorite food was bologna. A taste he enjoyed all of his life.

Even a year and half ago when he came to live with Roger, he made bologna and peanut butter sandwiches for 3 meals a day. After awhile, Roger says that he branched out and started putting the bologna aside and enjoying peanut butter on his brown sugar oatmeal. Gordon was never one for junk food. However, his favorite beverage was regular Pepsi. No diet Pepsi for him, somehow that was against the rules and Gordon, I am told was serious about the rules.

Gordon wasn’t interested in most professional sports. He frankly didn’t care if the Cubs or the Cardinals were playing. Gordon did, however, enjoy his NASCAR. The garage with the front and back doors open and a good breeze blowing was his happy place to sit and smoke one of his favorite briar pipes. He enjoyed smoking apple or cherry flavored Kentucky burley that when visiting in southern Illinois made a trip across the border to Kentucky the thing to do.

Gordon cared about people and he worried for their safety. Perhaps that is why he was so interested in the weather, wanting people protected. Keeping the rules also made everyone safer and that was important to Gordon. He liked things electronic especially his FM walkie talkies. On a Host Family outing, he was communication central. Checking in on everyone and making sure they were in their place and doing well.

I imagine his career of choice had he not been engaged with Parc and EP!C would have been as police dispatcher. He loved Law Enforcement, watching Carol O’Connor in the TV series, “The Heat of the Night,” and chatting with every police officer he ever met. You know a police dispatcher is all about the rules, too.

Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at PARC at 9 a.m. Rev. Dr. Randy Williams will officiate.
