Obituary for Elizabeth Ciza
Elizabeth Ciza, formerly of Peoria Heights, IL, died in Peoria on Thursday January 19, 2012 at 1:20 a.m. at Heartland Health Care Facility. Born March 26, 1913, to Loretta Kranzer and Wilhem Duill in Frankfurt/Main Germany, she married Svata Ciza in Germany on December 19, 1946. They arrived on the ship, the General Strugis, in New York on February 21, 1950, where it was said to have been the coldest day in the history of New York City. She was preceded in death in October of 1982 by her husband, Svata, who was a well known Peoria Musician for 32 years. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Hans Duill of Frankfurt, Germany. Surviving are a niece and nephew in Germany. She worked as a waitress at the Pere Marquette Hotel for 24 years, and as a waitress at Jim’s Steak House for 18 years, retiring in 1997 at the age of 84 years. She continued to keep very active at the River City Athletic Club until she was 95 years old. Her friends, John & Margery Wagner, who cared for her in her later years, and her other friends from the club will miss her. Since Elizabeth was very fond of children, memorials, in her name, may be made to the Salvation Army Child Care Center. Cremation has been accorded. Elizabeth will be buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery. There will be no services.
