Obituary for Donald Stewart
Donald F. Stewart, 84, of Castleton, IL, passed away on July 5, 2020 in Dahinda, IL doing what he loved most in life, fishing.
Donald was born in Waynesville, MO to Glen and Ada (Green) Stewart on May 23, 1936. Donald lived with his family in the Pulaski County Missouri area for the early part of his childhood. He spent many days exploring the hill country with his friends and cousins learning how to fish and hunt. He would pass these traits along to many generations. Donald later moved to East Peoria, IL where he lived for over 60 years before moving to Castleton, IL. He married the love of his life, Shirley Smith on August 18, 1957 in East Peoria, IL. Donald worked at Libby’s in Morton before attending welding school in Chicago. Once he graduated from welding school, he began his employment at Caterpillar as a machine operator. He retired from Caterpillar in 1994. Don served in the United States Army. He loved anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, being a Winter Texan and traveling with his family. He was a long-time member of Gamber Cove and Oak Run. His favorite sports team was the St. Louis Cardinals, which he loved to listen to on the radio. He was the best storyteller and always had a joke ready.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Ada (Green) Stewart. His siblings, Elva Lea (Stewart) Henson and Gladys (Stewart) Reardon.
Donald is survived by his wife, Shirley (Smith); his sister, Ella Mae (Stewart) Crossland; his children, Bill (Janna) Knowles of Columbia, MO, Bonnie (Jim) Welch of Kewanee, IL, Barbara (Carl) Harris of East Peoria, IL, Brenda Coons of East Peoria, IL and Sharlena (Lance) Nofsinger of Washington, IL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Delbert Ray Daniels, Bill Knowles II, Robert Knowles, Carl Harris Jr., Debbie Harris, Brandon Coons, Brett Coons, Jonathan Coons, Alexander Nofsinger, Drake Nofsinger, Courtney Nofsinger, Dakota Nofsinger, and Brooklynn Nofsinger. He also is survived by 11 great grandchildren and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Oak Run First Responders, American Diabetes Association or St. Jude in his name.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 3:00pm at Taylor Masonic Lodge 119 N. Wilmor Rd, Washington, IL with dinner and fellowship to follow. Bring your best memories to share.
Burial will be at a later date.
