Obituary for Charles Wheeler
Charles R. “Dick” Wheeler of rural Glasford went home to be with the lord on Wednesday April 13, 2011 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Canton. Dick was born on October 18, 1935 in Smithfield to Charles W. and Altha (Schoonover) Wheeler. He married Betty Lou Harkness on February 7, 1955 in Okolona, Mississippi. Their journey of love spanned 56 years. They were blessed with five children, Michael (Debbie) of Canton, Randy of Canton, Carol Stufflebeam of Hennepin, Richard and Rodney both of Odessa, Texas. They have 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Betty (Kenneth) Brown of Belle, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his sister Charlotte Mills, his brother Dilbert, and two great-grandsons; Bryce and Issac Bentzinger. Dick farmed with his father for years before working as an Operating Engineer with Local 649. He retired on September 1, 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the many camping trips with family and friends. The visitation will be held at White Chapel United Methodist Church located on the Canton-Glasford Blacktop, Highway 27 on Monday April 18, at 10 a.m. A memorial service will be held following the visitation at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Reed officiating.
