Obituary for Carolyn Grace Sturhahn
Carolyn Grace Sturhahn of Peoria.
On the afternoon of April 18, 2018, surrounded by family, Carolyn Grace Sturhahn passed to her eternal home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She passed away at the age of 72 after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.
Grace was born December 16, 1945 in Swan River, Manitoba, Canada to Erwin and Adena Henkelman. She married Richard Sturhahn June 28, 1969 and they resided in Winnipeg, Manitoba for a few years, before moving to St. Ignace, Michigan in 1973.
After moving to the Peoria area in 2001, she began a job with SEAPCO working with children with special needs in the Dunlap school system. She loved her job and especially loved the little ones she worked with day in and day out.
She was fully devoted to her family and cherished time with her eight grandchildren. They often visited the zoo together, had tea parties, and had sleepovers at her house.
Grace exemplifies the love spoken of in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Grace will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 49 years, Richard Sturhahn and her children Mark Sturhahn of Peoria, IL and Steve (Marti) Sturhahn of Morton, IL. She will be deeply missed as a wonderful grandmother by her eight grandchildren, Andrew, Cason, Tristan, Leah, Annaliese, Nathanael, Zoe and Elijah. She is also survived by her mother Adena Henkelman, her sister Jan (Harry) Khan, her brother Lorne (Lesley) Henkelman and her sister-in-law Heidi Henkelman. Grace was preceded in death by her father, Erwin, her brother, David and her granddaughter, Charlotte.
A visitation for Grace will be held on Saturday April 21, 2018 at 9am with a celebration of life at 10:30am. The service will be held at Bethany Baptist Church on 7422 N Heinz Ln in Edwards, IL and will be officiated by Pastor Lyall Sutton.
