Obituary for James "Jim" M. Scott, Jr.
James (Jim) M. Scott, Jr., 83, lifelong Peorian, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on November 25, 2019. He was blessed with a full, benevolent, rewarding life.

He was born in Peoria on December 12, 1935, and is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sharon, four daughters Marilyn Oesch, Angie Camden, Becky (Arek) Wdowiak, Stephanie (LeMoyne) Fletcher, and one son, Ben (Kathleen) Kaufman, ten grandchildren, and three great grand-daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mabel Boseke Scott, his brother, Dennis Scott, and two infant children.

Jim graduated from Woodruff High School in 1955 and Peoria Barber College. He began his career with Caterpillar, Inc., at age 27. He retired after 30 years in 1992 and remained a lifelong UAW #974 member.

Jim loved people, he never met a stranger, and volunteered his time and talents with multiple organizations. He was a 14-year volunteer member of the American Red Cross National Disaster Team and Local Red Cross Response Captain, President of Peoria Lion’s Club, Local United Way Appropriations Board Member, member of the Channel 47 Auction Team, and shared his special talent of make-up artist for Peoria Players and Cornstock theatres for over 40 years. He was a Sunday School teacher for 20 years at Anshai Emeth Temple, and served as a board member on the Peoria Hebrew Cemetery.

Jim’s first love was his family and his second love was his Masonic Brothers. He was a Past Master Councilor of Demolay and Past Master of Peoria Lodge #15, member of Cathedral Lodge #1179, and a lifetime member of Alta Lodge #748. He was a 35-year member of the Scottish Rite, elected to Sovereign Prince, received 32nd degree, and honored with MSA award for his service. He was a past member of Mohammed Shrine, Dramads Club, Yellow Dog, and Order of Eastern Star.

In his spare time his personal joys were family, perfecting his many stories and jokes, cooking and being a Weber grill master, travelling, fishing, scuba diving, listening to Broadway showtunes, riding his Honda Helix, and just loving all that life had to offer him.

The family would like to thank his grandson, Steven Erickson, Jr., for months of weekly companionship, and the OSF Palliative and Hospice teams for their months of support, compassion and endless hugs.

Cremation rites have been accorded and Jim is with his family at Springdale Cemetery.

“Well done thou good and faithful servant.”

A grand celebration of Jim’s wonderful life, filled with humor and love, will be held at the Masonic Lodge #263, 2900 W. Lake Ave., Peoria, IL 61615, on December 14, 2019 at 2:00pm sharp. Masonic Services to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to OSF Community Palliative or OSF Community Hospice- 2265 W. Altorfer Drive Peoria, IL. 61615 or any organizations Jim loved.
