Bernard “Bernie” Everett Arterburn was born November 25, 1939 in Peoria Illinois and passed away September 19, 2023.
He was preceded in death by both parents Everett and Eleanora Arterburn; one niece Christine Hainer and brother-in-law, Vaughn Leadman, both of Huntington, WV.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, who was the “love of his life.” He is survived by his sister Marcia Leadman of Huntington, WV and brothers Neil (Paula) Arterburn and Warren (Christy) Arterburn of Peoria, IL. Also survived by nieces and nephews: Deanna Holley, Huntington, WV; Larry (Annmarie) Leadman, Kensington, MD; Amanda (Eric) Bressler Houston, Tx; Suzanne (Brad) Motteler, Peoria, IL; Allison Kaufmann, East Peoria, IL; Travis Arterburn, Peoria, IL; and stepson, Eric Lostutter, Peoria, IL.
Bernie graduated Woodruff High School in 1957. Then, he completed his “master carpenter” apprenticeship. Bernie served in the Army National Guard from 1961 to 1963.
He was a tremendously successful selling real estate for several years in the Rockford, IL area. He started a new housing construction company in Rockford. In his recreational time, he enjoyed coaching women’s softball for many years in Illinois, often nearly reaching national playoffs. He moved back to Peoria in 1999.
