Doris “Dodi” Ann Wilcoxon Larke, 90, of Peoria, IL passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at UnityPoint Health Methodist in Peoria, IL.
She was born July 23, 1931, in Cantrall, IL to Morris Raymond and Willetta Grace Myers Wilcoxon.
She married Frederick H. Larke; he preceded her in death. Her parents; brothers-in-law, Bill Bonifield, William Larke, Ted Larke, Raymond Little and sisters-in-law, Betty Little, Oma Larke and Mary Ann Wilcoxon also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Gregory (Ginny) Larke; sister, Donna Joan Wilcoxon Bonifield; brother, Morris Eugene (Barb) Wilcoxon; sister-in-law, Jean Larke; grandsons, Tyler Larke, Cole Larke; four step grandchildren, Eric (Liz) Stein, Jeff Stein, Matt Stein, Kelly Stein; great-grandchildren, Brayton Schaer, Brenley Schaer, Lyric Stein and Henry Stein.
Doris worked as a teacher for the Peoria Public Schools retiring in 1990.
She graduated from Athens High School in 1949 where she was in the National Honor Society, from Bradley University with her BS Degree in 1953 and Illinois State University with her MS Degree in 1969 where she was a Phi Kappa Pi ISU Education Honorary in 1969.
Doris was the Illinois Home Economics Teacher of the Year in 1988, Peoria Chapter DAR Regent 1997-1999, Peoria Women’s Club 1993 and on the Board of Directors 1996-2001. Home Economics Foundation Delta Kappa Gamma Society International 1967, President 1968-1976. Peoria Historical Society Flanagan House Manager 1980-BOD 1997-1999. Peoria area Home Economics Club-1953, President 1982-1983. Home Economists in Homemaking. Life member of Peoria Area Retired Teachers, Illinois Retired Teachers and NEA. Friends of Springdale Cemetery. Chi Omega Alumni-Mu Delta Chapter Bradley, Williamsfield Prairie Quilters Gems of the Prairie Quilters, 50+ Bridge Group-First Presbyterian Church and Retired Women of Woodruff (WOWS).
Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Lutheran Hillside Village with a reception following.
Memorials may be made to Home Economics Foundation of Peoria Area c/o Betty Church Bradley University, Peoria Women’s Club for building restoration or Children’s Home in Peoria, IL in her name.
