Obituary for Sylvan M. (Sib) Unsicker
Sylvan Merl Unsicker age 98, of East Peoria passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at UnityPoint Health Methodist, at 8:35pm, following a tragic accident. His wife of 36 years and sister were at his side when he passed.
Sib was born October 3, 1922, in rural Tremont to William and Ida (Bolliger) Unsicker. He was the 10th child of 13. He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings.
Sib was a Tremont High School graduate. He worked on the family farm with his brother, Elmer and later he and his cousin, Lester Unsicker formed a business combining crops for area farmers. Following this Sib and his brother, Bill built and ran Unsickers Cashway Lumberyard south of Tremont along route 121 until retirement.
November 23, 1984 Sib married the love of his life, Helen (Green) Morse and embraced her family as his own. All of his life he put others ahead of himself. He loved to work with his hands and was very creative. Sib is survived by his wife, Helen and one sister, Marilyn Toepfer. Also surviving are Helen’s children, Carolyn Morlock, Marlene (Bob) Aylett, Leslie Morse and Allen Morse and 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild along with many nieces and nephews.
The visitation for Sib will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021; from 2pm-5pm at the Family Life Center, next to the Tremont United Methodist Church at 112 W. Pearl St. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Kenney, IL at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center (They fight hate crimes).
