Obituary for Bernice "Putzie" Christian
Bernice E. Christian, “Putzie”, 95, died peacefully on June 9, 2020 at University Rehab at Northmoor in Peoria, IL.
She was born on December 2, 1924 in Kankakee, IL to Lester and Louise Neuerburg.
Putzie spent the majority of her life in Peoria and graduated from Manual High School. She was the former owner of Proctor Pharmacy with her father, Lester, who was a registered Pharmacist. After closing the pharmacy Putzie & Evelyn Pratt had a restaurant concession at Madison Golf course for several years. Later Putzie worked for many years at Bogard Drug Store until her retirement. She especially enjoyed having her family and friends together at Christmas and it became an annual celebration for all. Putzie attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria.
Survivors include her 3 sons, Thomas (Marilyn) of Stoughton, WI, John (Joann) of Lenexa, KS, and Mark of West Peoria; and 3 grandchildren, John Thomas (JT), Noah, Markie, and great grandson Zach.
The family would like to thank Dottie Askew for Putzie’s care and companionship.
The family will hold a private Celebration of Life. She will be buried at Parkhill Cemetery in Bloomington, IL. The family requests no flowers. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 NE Randolph Ave., Peoria, IL 61606.
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
