Obituary for Thomas J. Innis
Thomas J. Innis 76, of Pekin passed away on Tuesday April 1, 2008 at his home. Born in North Bergen, NJ on December 23, 1931. The son of Peter and Mary McBride Innis. Tom married Barbara M. Geason in Morton on May 31, 1958, she survives along with his sons; Jim (Kim) Innis of Frankfort, Dale (Dixie) Innis of Little Rock, AR, John (Julie) Innis of South Elgin, Bob (Jane) Innis of Mt. Zion, daughters; Mary Innis and Becky (John) Kurilro both of Chicago and Carol (Dave) Burke of Pekin. He also leaves behind 2 brothers Bill (Arlene) Innis of Secaucus, NJ, Tony (Helen) Innis of Peru and his 11 grandchildren. His parents, 1 brother and granddaughter Hanna Innis preceded him in death. Tom served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 and received the National Defense Service Metal. He received his BA from Millikin and his MS from ISU and worked for over 42 years in Education. He was the Head Football Coach and Track Coach at Virden High School and was a Teacher and Coach at PCHS for 30 years. He was the founder of All State Football Game and Playoff System, a charter member of Illinois High School Association, was inducted into the Greater Peoria Sports hall of Fame in 2007 and was the Regional Superintendent of Schools for Tazewell County from 1994 to 1998. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Tom was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where a funeral mass will be held on Saturday April 5, at 11 a.m. Father Timothy Nolan and Rev. Mr. Gary Blake will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. Visitation will be at Abts Mortuary on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made in his name to St. Joseph church or the Alzheimer’s Association of Illinois.
