Obituary for Eva Horine Winter
PEORIA

- Eva (Larson) Horine Winter, formerly of Macomb and Peoria, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, in Springfield, Ill., just 24 days short of her 90th birthday.

She was born in Macomb on Sept. 4, 1919, to Leslie and Alice Kaiser Larson of rural Colchester, where she grew up on the family farm. She married John "Jack" Horine in 1941. They had three daughters who survive, Sherry (Tom) Hainline of Catlin, Ill., Tana (David) Elder of Petersburg, Ill., and Kathleen Riepe of Bloomington, Ill. Ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

She married Glenn Winter on Aug. 23, 1978. He preceded her in death in March 2004.

Also preceding her were her parents and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Naomi & Neilo Koski and Mildred & Asbury Ferry.

Eva earned a B.A. in Business (1940) and an M.A. in History (1965) from Western Illinois University. She touched the lives of many during her life, including 20 years of teaching U.S. History, Business and Consumer Economics at Colchester High School.

In addition to her three daughters and their families, Eva had many passions, including gardening, ballroom and square dancing, clogging, swimming, reading, art, cooking, baking and playing board games. She was a professional level seamstress, making her daughters' clothes growing up, their wedding dresses, grandchildren's clothing and her and Glenn's elaborate square dance outfits.

She served as Sunday school superintendent and on the administrative board of Wesley United Methodist Church while living in Macomb. She was a deaconess and volunteer for the United Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Ill.

A memorial service to celebrate the lives of Eva and Glenn will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, with visitation at 10 a.m., at Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb, Ill. Pastor Becky Lembke will officiate.
