Robert S. “Tub” Thomas 84, of Pekin passed away peacefully, following kidney failure, at his home on July 18
th
at 1:00 p.m. in the presence of his wife and 4 children. He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Pekin to Stanley and Erma Thomas and was raised by his mother and step-father, C.H. McGarvey. He married Mary Alice Callery on Aug. 30, 1947, in Princeville, IL. She survives. Also surviving are their four children: two sons, Michael (Ivy) of Columbus, MS and Robert (Melody) of Rochester, IL and two daughters, Kathleen of Pekin and Karol (Greg) Clapper of Bloomington, IL. A sister, Mary Ellen Herget lives in Aurora, IL. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Amanda (Shaun) Castillo, Conroe, TX; Jamie (John) Morris, Evanston, IL; Rebecca (Jeff) Ferguson, Spring, TX; Kara Thomas, Springfield, IL; Brian (Danielle) Clapper, Park Ridge, IL; Cal (Carly) Thomas, Springfield, IL; and Staci Clapper, Milwaukee, WI. There are 5 great-grandchildren, Logan, Ryan, Thomas, Samantha and Corey, with 5 more great-grandchildren due to be born this winter! A World War II Air Force veteran, he graduated from Illinois State Normal University in 1948 and was a teacher/coach in Granville, IL. After moving back to Pekin, he spent 17 years in industrial supervision and personnel management at Corn Products. He became manager of Sunset Hills Golf and Swim Club and later went into Real Estate and purchased a small business. After retiring, he worked as a substitute teacher at PCHS and Schramm Schools. Other memberships include the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He was a past member and President of the PCHS Board of Education. He was a Broker/Realtor on the Pekin Board of Realtors and was also a member of the Tazewell County Board of Review. He will be dearly missed and remembered for his Love, Faith and Integrity! Tub was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where a funeral mass will be held on Friday July 23, at 3 p.m. with visitation from 1:30 to time of service. Father Jim Pankiewicz will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the mass. In lieu of flowers donations will be gladly accepted in his name at Tazewell County Resource Center, Harbor Lights Hospice and St. Joseph parish
