Obituary for William Wallace
William Lewis Wallace, 90, of Peoria died at 12:30 am Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Proctor Hospital. He was born November 26, 1921 Lying-In Hospital in Chicago, Illinois to Clarence and Jeanette Elizabeth Robinson Wallace. He married Joyce Lee Williams in Chicago, Illinois on May 28, 1948.  He was so proud of his daughter Carolyn every moment they shared and welcomed Marc Steven Bernstein into the family when she married him.  He is survived by his wife, daughter and son-in-law.  His parents, half-brother, brother and two sisters proceed him in death. Bill was employed by Caterpillar for 31 years primarily as a data processing systems analyst.  He was a true pioneer in using computers for CAT's business purposes.  He wrote the first computer program ever written by a CAT employee which allowed them to get the exact computation program needed while saving money on computer expense simultaneously.  Later in his career, he wrote the first numerically controlled tool program.  He retired February 1, 1987. During World War II, he served the nation on oil tankers in the Atlantic as a member of the Merchant Marines.  He was the youngest man to earn a Master's License at the New London Officer's Candidate School at the time of his attendence. He was an avid reader of History, Maritime, and Computer books and all types of other literature of the same subjects. Cremation rites have been accorded. The memorial service will be private.
