Obituary for Brenda McGarvey
Brenda Joyce (Shelton) McGarvey, 51, of Delavan passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 at her residence. She was born July 19, 1961 in Peoria the daughter of Johnny Harvey Shelton and Marilyn Joyce Bowling. She married her soul mate and best friend Dave McGarvey on August 17, 1979. He survives along with daughter, Amanda McGarvey of Washington; sisters, Debbie (Shelton) Maples of Washington, Barb Shelton of East Peoria, Nancy (Shelton) Howard of East Peoria; brother, Johnny “JR” (Angie) Shelton Jr. of Peoria and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kevin Shelton; one sister, Michelle (Shelton) Quenon and a special “Grandma” Neslen “Teepee” Hartman. She was employed by Sweep A Lot since 2008, working along side her husband. Brenda was a great sister who spent much of her life caring for her siblings, she was also a dedicated wife and loving mother and her family was her entire world. She was an animal lover and will be greatly missed by her two dogs, Buddy and Nuke. She loved gardening and was known for her quick wit, no-nonsense attitude and her strength. She was a talented writer and spent several years of her life writing poetry. She was very involved in her daughter’s life and became a second mom to many of her friends and she cared dearly for all of them. Cremation has been accorded and a Celebration of life will be held Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Vietnam Veteran’s Hall “The Bunker” at 100 W. Bittersweet Rd. Washington, Illinois from 12-3 p.m.
