Obituary for Roy Pollack
Roy Pollack, 94, of Peoria passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016 in East Peoria. He was born in Chicago on November 17, 1921. His parents were Gus J. and Hattie Adler Pollack. In 1948 he married Beverly Shapiro. They remained together for 57 years until her death in 2005. They were the parents of Gary David Pollack (of Ottawa) and Elizabeth (Liz) Joan Pollack (of Peoria). In June of 1943 he volunteered in the Army Corps of Engineers and went to the China, Burma India Theater of war and was discharged in November 1946 as a Staff Sgt. In 1950 he and Beverly moved to Princeton along with his employer – LCN Door Closers. He retired from LCN as an Engineering Manager in 1990. Roy was a charter member and officer of the Princeton Jaycees. Along with Beverly, he founded and served as the President of the Bureau County Association of Children with Learning Disabilities which later became Gateway Center. He served as President of the Gateway Board for many years. He was also the long time president of the Bureau Valley Community Concert Association as well as the President of Temple B’nai Moshe in LaSalle, IL for over 20 years. Roy was especially proud to deliver Meals on Wheels and to serve as a Gold Coat at Perry Memorial Hospital for many years. A memorial service will be held in May. Memorials may be made to Temple B’nai Moshe in LaSalle, IL or PFS Animal Shelter in Edwards, IL.
