Obituary for Zella Opal Bastonero
Zella Opal Bastonero, 92, of Pekin Passed away on Sunday June 24, 2012 at her home. She was born in Hopedale on May 11, 1920 to Perry and Pearl Johnson Davis she married Melvin Bastonero in Pekin on September 20, 1952, he preceded her in death on March 24, 1990. Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughter Carolyn Crum and brother, Howard “Dusty” Rhodes. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Phillip) Kohler of Pekin; grandchildren, Mark Beam, Scott Batterton, Denise Ometzberger, Greg Beam, Danette Brogdon, Tom Batterton; great-grandchildren, Daniel Beam, Austin Melton, Megan Melton, Audra Beam, Anthony Melton, Brayden Batterton, Kali Batterton, Joshua Beam, Caitlin Ometzberger and great great-grandson, Carter Rader. Opal worked as a waitress, cook for Edison Grade School and volunteer for Hopedale Medical Complex for 35 years. She was a member of the Eagles and First United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at Abts Mortuary in Pekin on Wednesday June 27, 2012 at 10a.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Burial will be in Minier Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be made to TAPS in her name.
