Obituary for William Bill Gregory Roby
William “Bill” Gregory Roby 86, passed away on Saturday March 29, 2008 at his home in South Pekin with his family at his side. Born in Lyonia, KY on Nov 15, 1921 to Gregory and Agnes Bickett Roby. He married Mary Avis Axley on Sept 27, 1952, she survives along with his children; Tony (Melodie) Roby of Pekin, Charles Roby of Florida, Alan Roby of South Pekin, Sharon (Steve) Friedrich, Teresa (Phillip) Friedrich and Diana (Jeff) Oden all of Green Valley, sister Cecelia Rearden of Pekin and 8 grand and 6 great grandchildren. His son James “Eddy” Roby and 5 brothers and 1 sister preceded him in death. Bill served in the Army during WWII and worked as an Electrician for Caterpillar, retiring in 1983. Bill was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing was his favorite pastime. He will be deeply missed by his family. Bill was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where a funeral mass will be held on Wednesday April 2, at 10 a.m. Father Timothy Nolan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Pekin. Visitation will be at Abts Mortuary from 5 to 7 on Tuesday with a rosary at 7 p.m.. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph School, St. Joseph Food Pantry or Harbor Lights Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Abts Mortuary.
