Obituary for Verne Haskell Twedell Jr.

Verne Haskell Twedell Jr., 77, of Peoria, IL passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Sharon Healthcare Elms in Peoria, IL.


He was born April 14, 1947, in Peoria, IL to Verne and Helen Durham Twedell Sr. His parents; sister, Diane Twedell Dison and brothers, Danny Twedell and Bobby Dean Twedell preceded him in death.


He married Rebecca Marple on April 4, 1970, in Peoria, IL; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Jessica (Dan) Perham of Peoria, IL, Susan (James) Oleson of Anderson, SC, Sarah (Christopher) Kerr of Orlando, FL, Andrew (Amy) Twedell of Hanna City, IL; grandchildren, Amanda Perham, Wyatt Perham, Elijah Oleson, Caroline Oleson, Jillian Oleson and many nieces and nephew.


Verne served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and Korea. He worked for Knox (ANR) Trucking in Peoria, IL for 35 years until retiring in 2004 and drove a school bus for IVC District 321. He volunteered at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL before moving to St. Louis in 2008. After moving to St. Louis, he worked for the city as a refuse truck driver. Verne was a member of Bethany Missionary Church in East Peoria, IL where he taught during Vacation Bible School. He also served his community as a volunteer Firefighter for 35 years, serving in Creve Coeur, IL, Northern Tazewell, IL and Chillicothe, IL fire departments. Verne was a life member of DAV, VFW and the American Legion.


Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Cedar Hills Baptist Church in Dunlap, IL.


Memorials may be made to the family.
