Obituary for Vera Margelli Shew
Vera Margelli Shew, 93, of Pekin passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Timbercreek Rehab and Healthcare Center in Pekin. She was born September 22, 1922 in Sevastopol, WI to Henry and Caroline Wilke Diefenbach. She married Joseph J. Margelli November 25, 1940 in Highland Park, IL; he preceded her in death May 15, 1977. She later married Leo H. Shew March 19, 1983 in Pekin; he preceded her in death August 15, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marian and Eunice Diefenbach and brother, Donald H. Diefenbach of Sturgeon, WI. She is survived by her half-brothers, Orland Diefenbach and Kenneth Diefenbach both of Algoma, WI; half-sister, Beverly Diefenbach of Algoma, WI; caregiver and niece, Arvella Guidotti; great-nephews, Scott, Derek and Troy Guidotti and many other nieces and nephews. During World War II she worked for the Air Inspector, Communication Director in Dayton, OH and then at the Finance Department in Fort Sheridan, IL. Later she worked for Steger’s Furniture in Pekin for many years prior to retiring in 1985. Vera served as an Election Judge and volunteered at Pekin Township for many years. She was a fabulous cook, Italian, German and Gourmet. Her recipes are priceless. She enjoyed gardening, gambling and trips with her gal pals. Aunt Bea will be sorely missed. Her passing is an end to a family era. Cremation has been accorded, no services or visitation per Vera’s wishes. Private burial of ashes will be at a later date in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
