Obituary for Sylvia Hammond
Sylvia "Sammy" Hammond, 96, of Eureka died Thursday February
10, 2011 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.
Born on Sept. 6, 1914, in Brookfield, Mass. to Edward and Florence (Vine)
Steadman, she married Clarence "Bish" Hammond on Sept. 9, 1939. He
preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1998.
Surviving are 4 daughters, Patricia Warn of East Peoria, Jan (Wally) Johnson
of Issaquah, WA, Susie Hammond of Wolfeboro, NH and Debbie Hammond of
Marengo, IL; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Sammy enjoyed travel, reading, crossword puzzles, bridge, dancing,
singing, canoeing, swimming and her 4 girls. She also loved summering in
Fryeburg, Maine.
Helping others was very important to her. She volunteered at the Eureka Food
Pantry, Eureka Hospital Service Auxiliary, Eureka College Women's Board,
Woodford County Historical Society and the Eureka Presbyterian Church.
Private services will be held this summer in Maine.
