Obituary for Suzanne (Suzy) Korsgard
Suzanne “Suzy” DeMoure Korsgard of Peoria passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 9:41 a.m. at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria after a brief, but courageous, battle. Born July 2, 1931, in Peoria, Illinois, to John M. and Mildred F. DeMoure, she married Robert A. Korsgard on June 25, 1955, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1998. Suzanne is lovingly survived and will be greatly missed by her two sons, Craig (Trina) Korsgard of Stafford, Virginia, and Christopher (Susan) Korsgard of Naperville, Illinois; one daughter, Karen Korsgard of Mt. Zion, Illinois; and nine grandchildren – Chad (Lindsay) and Corbin Korsgard, Ashley Ray (Trey) Schneider; Katherine, Anne, Jonathon and Isabella Korsgard; Hannah and Brock Grueter; and one great-grandson, Mason Schneider. She taught second grade at Whittier Grade School from 1953-1959. Suzanne graduated from Peoria High School and the University of Arizona where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority – and was honored to be named Homecoming Queen at both Peoria High (1948) and Arizona (1951). She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter G.S., Service League of Methodist Medical Center, served as President of Fine Arts Society of Lakeview Museum, and was President of Easter Seal Center Auxiliary. Suzanne was a longtime avid golfer and Bridge player. She unselfishly contributed her time to the elementary school reading program at Harrison School in Peoria – and held great affection for the children whose lives she impacted over those years. Suzanne was a longstanding member of the Country Club of Peoria – and was a dedicated member of First Federated Church, where she served as Deacon. Beyond the facts of her life as a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, community member and friend to so many – Suzanne was an individual who made a lasting impact on every life she touched. Whether it was a passing acquaintance or a lifelong friend, ask anyone whom Suzy graced with her presence – and the warmth she emanated remained. So, with these words as a tribute to a life well lived, the family and friends of Suzanne DeMoure Korsgard say goodbye – and begin this new day wrapped in the warm and loving memories gifted to each of us by an individual who left such a memorable impression on so many, in the very special way only she could. In honor of this life, a reception of family and friends will be held at First Federated Church Sunday, May 18, 2014, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services in celebration of Suzy’s life will be held Monday, May 19, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., also at First Federated Church – Forrest L. Krummel officiating, with Joel Stevenor of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church assisting. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial will take place in the Columbarium at First Federated Church following the services. The family requests in lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Richard L. Owens Hospice Home of Peoria, First Federated Church of Peoria, The American Cancer Society, or The Peoria Riverfront Museum – In Support of the Arts.
