Obituary for Shirley Slaughter
Shirley J. Slaughter, 66, of West Peoria passed away peacefully with her family at her side at 9:22 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born October 15, 1949 in Hot Springs, SD to William and Thirsa Janet Howe Fitzner. Her mother preceded her in death. She is survived by her father, of Hot Springs, SD; loving and constant companion, her soul mate, Kenneth Abegg of West Peoria; son, James Wayland (Angie) Slaughter of Huntsville, AL; daughter, Cynthia Marie (Richard) Messer II of East Peoria; grandchildren, Tasha (Colin) Besser of Peoria, Suzanne Messer of East Peoria, Nicholas Slaughter of Huntsville, AL, Richard Messer III of East Peoria, Andrew Slaughter of Huntsville, AL, Krista Messer of East Peoria; three sisters; one brother and ten nieces and nephews. Shirley worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in East Peoria for over 25 years. She attended St. Peters Lutheran Church in East Peoria. She loved carpentry, remodeling, antiques, gardening, baking and making good food. Her greatest gift to her family was her love and wonderful sense of humor. Per her wishes cremation has been accorded and no services will be held. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the National Kidney Foundation.
