Obituary for Shirley Colvin
Shirley Ann (Steele) Colvin, 75, of Farmington passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at 5:30 a.m. at Kindred Hospital in Peoria. She was born on August 19, 1937 to Robert Steele and Doris (Swisher) Steele. She married Willard “Skip” Charles Colvin Jr. on February 1, 1969 in Peoria. Survivors include her husband, Skip of Farmington whom she resided with; one son, Erik Charles (Sheri) Colvin of Farmington. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Bryar, Lydea, Elyce, Tenley and Adelyn Colvin all of Farmington; one brother, William “Bill” (Minnie) Steele of Peoria; mother-in-law, Edna G. Colvin of Farmington and her sister-in-law, Tammie Colvin of Lewistown. She was preceded in death by her parents. After graduating from Woodruff High School she went on to LPN training at Methodist. She started working on the surgical floor as a LPN after she finished her training in 1959 until she retired in November of 1974. After retiring she worked home health care for many families in and around the Farmington and Middle Grove area. She loved her five cats dearly and enjoyed her five grandchildren most. She always had a lesson to teach, crafts to do, goodies to bake and treats to eat. What else could you ask for in a grandmother, mother, friend and mentor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Farmington for forty years, where she volunteered her time creating and organizing Bible School programs, Christmas programs, Sunday School lessons and the like until a few years ago. She was on the Christian Education Board and spent much of her time and dedication to the children in the church, along with volunteering on the American Baptist Women’s Committee, the flower and the funeral committees. She was an Auxiliary member at the Farmington Legion Post 140. She was the first Co-Den leader in the country for Tiger Cubs. She also volunteered her time with the Boy Scouts and put in over 25 years of helping with Tiger Cubs through Eagle Scouts. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Farmington.
