Shirley Ann Laux, beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted follower of Christ, peacefully passed away in Peoria, IL on August 21, 2024, just weeks after celebrating her 83rd birthday on August 3rd.
If you knew Shirley, you knew two things: her unwavering love for Jesus and her deep, undying love for her family. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she exemplified Christ's love in every way, always putting her family first, just as He loves us.
More than just a mother or grandmother, Shirley was our biggest fan. We can still hear her voice echoing over the crowd at sports games, her unmistakable cheer, "Let's go blue!" Beyond those moments in the stands, she was a prayer warrior-interceding on behalf of each of us, her children, grandchildren, and many others she knew. Those prayers have shaped our lives, and their power will continue to cover us all.
Shirley is survived by her four children: Debbie (Jim) Knight of Peoria, IL; Loni (Chuck) Smith of Hickory, NC; Tommy Harrington of New York, NY; and Karen Harrington of Hickory, NC. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Erika Cross (Chris Lewis) of Pensacola, FL; Matthew (Abby) Knight of Phoenix, AZ; Brianna Smith of Charlotte, NC; Olivia Smith of Hickory, NC and Alex (Chantel) Harrington of Hickory, NC., along with ten great-grandchildren: Jackson, Kayla, Bella, Amador, Jeter, Armani, Aziel, Lulu, Akari, and Simeon: she also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Shirley laid a solid spiritual foundation for her family, who will carry her legacy of faith, love, and prayer.
Though she is no longer with us, we find comfort in the words of John 11:25-26: "I am the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die." Until we meet again, we will hold her close in our hearts knowing that her love and prayers continue to guide us.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to her church-CT Church, 5125 W Farmington Rd, Peoria, IL 61604.
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
