Obituary for Sherry L. Weis
Sherry L. Weis, 66, of Chillicothe passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born April 7, 1942, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, to William and Marion Warmington Wilkerson, she married Roger R. Weis on July 4, 1976, aboard the Golden Fleece yacht off the coast of Ft. Meyers Beach, FL.
He survives along with their children, Lisa (Greg) Krause of Ft. Pierre, SD, Jaelithe (Scott) McLintock of Washington, David (Jill) Weis of Colorado Springs, CO, and Graham (Missy) Taylor of Umatilla, FL; brother Dr. William M. (Dr. Catherine) Wilkerson Jr. of Ann Arbor, MI; sister Beth (Mark) Gorman of Littleton, CO; and four grandchildren.
Her parents, one sister, and one brother preceded her in death.
Sherry immigrated to Downers Grove and became a US citizen in 1961. Following her high school graduation, she studied journalism at Northwestern University.
Sherry was a copywriter at Aldens and Foster Gallagher, as well as a homemaker, mushroom hunter and an avid reader.
In Chillicothe, she served as a Precinct Committeeman, Alderman 1989-1993, and as Mayor 1993-1997.
Cremation has been accorded. No visitation is planned, and private services will be held prior to burial in Chillicothe Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to TAPS Animal Shelter, 100 TAPS Lane, Pekin, IL 61554.
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
