Obituary for Sally Magee Fitch

Sally Magee Fitch of Peoria passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Buehler Home. The family wishes to thank Buehler Home for their excellent and loving care.


She was born in Albany, Missouri, on February 11, 1934, to Carl O. and Martha Whaley Magee. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jean Miller. She is survived by her husband, Dewey; daughters, Anne (David) Gasper, Cathy Reitz and Sara Meyers; granddaughter, Kate Gasper; and many nieces and nephews.


Sally earned her Bachelor’s degree in Experimental Cooking at lowa State College, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta and Phi Kappa Phi home economics honorary, and the lowa State Sing.


In 1956, she married Dewey Fitch and they had three daughters. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader through 8th grade for a troop, and active in fundraising for PTA at Peoria High School, where her children attended. She was a member of Service League of Methodist Center, involved in the gift shop as Chairman and a buyer in the gifts department. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served as an elder, was active in women’s association, and sang in the choir for many years. She served on the board of Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, as well as the board of South Side Mission.


She was a pilot and an avid bridge player and enjoyed tennis and golf. She spent winters in Arizona for fifteen years with her husband, Dewey.


Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life for Sally at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1420 W. Moss Ave., Peoria, IL 61606, on May 4, 2024. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m., with the service to follow at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Tim Mitchell officiating.


The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
