Obituary for Roy Fred Schindler
Roy Fred Schindler, 92, of Creve Coeur passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. He had been living at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in LaSalle since October 2015. He was born January 5, 1924 in Chicago to William and Lillian Miller Schindler. He married Mary Schelling May 28, 1949 in Peoria; she preceded him in death February 20, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one infant sister; sister, Elenore (Thomas Sr.) Wilson; brother, William (Wanda) Schindler; and grandson, John Paul Hilligoss. He is survived by his children, Fred (Debbie) Schindler, Kathleen (Keith) Schindler-Wright, Scott Schindler, Steve (Gail) Schindler, David (Mindy) Schindler and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Roy served in the U.S. Navy in Normandy and was a lifetime member of the Creve Coeur VFW Post #4835. He worked for Caterpillar retiring in 1985. He was a genius at remembering and telling jokes and he loved making people laugh. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. His visitation will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Abts Mortuary in Pekin. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 22 at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria with Military Honors. Pastor Charles Houston will officiate. Memorials may be made to any programs that assist Veteran’s in his honor.
