Obituary for Roosevelt Sanders Jr.
Roosevelt Sanders Jr., 76, of Peoria, IL passed away peacefully at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at UnityPoint Health Proctor in Peoria, IL.
Roosevelt was born October 1, 1946, in Sunflower, MS the son of Roosevelt Sanders Sr. and Estella Gomillia Sanders. His parents preceded him in death.
He married the love of his life, Terry A. Scott July 26, 1972, and they shared 50 years of marriage in Peoria, IL; she survives. Roosevelt also leaves to cherish his most precious memories his loving and devoted sons, Courtney Sanders of Peoria, IL, Jarvis (Diana) Sanders of Glendale, WI; one grandson, Couri Harris Sanders of Peoria, IL; one brother, Eugene (Yolanda) Sanders of San Jose, CA; one uncle, James Glover of Mississippi; one aunt, Mildred Woods of Chicago, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Roosevelt was a 1966 graduate of Manuel High School where he was a great running back in football, he went to Western University on a football scholarship, after one year he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1967 during the Vietnam conflict. After serving his country for 4 years Roosevelt worked at Bell’s Men’s Clothing Store, Hiram Walker, and retired from State Farm in 2005.
Roosevelt became a member of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at a very young age under Rev. Calvin C. Hightower and now Pastor Cleveland Thomas Sr.
Roosevelt graduated from the University of Illinois with his bachelor’s degree in Arts Management.
In honoring his wishes there will be no public visitation or service.
