Obituary for Roland S. Mitchell
Roland S. Mitchell 88, of Pekin passed away on Wednesday April 30, 2008 at Pekin Hospital. Born on May 16, 1919 in Morton to Ollie and Mae Egger Mitchell. He married Tina Pescaglia in Pekin on April 20, 1957, she survives along with his son Roger (Betsy) Mitchell of Morton, sisters; Eldeana Nuest of Napa, CA, Beverly (Frank) Scott of Green Valley, granddaughters; Bethany Mitchell Kayau and Meredith Mitchell of Chicago and his great grandson Yarrow. 2 sisters and 2 brothers preceded him in death. Roland worked at Corn Products for many years, retiring at age 62. He bowled with the Elks Club team and Corn Products team winning many trophies. He liked to fish and putt in his garden. He and his wife traveled to Italy, Hawaii, New York State fair, California and spent winters in Florida. He served in the Army during WWII and was a member of the VFW where his son surprised him with a life time membership. He was a member of St. Joseph Church where a funeral mass will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Father Pat Fixsen will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. Memorials may be made to his church or St. Jude. Arrangements have been entrusted to Abts Mortuary.
