Obituary for Robert W. Shepler
Robert W. Shepler 80, of Pekin passed away on Wednesday January 2, 2008 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. Born on September 21, 1927 in East Peoria to Emmanuel and Anna Apfel Shepler. He married Donna DeBoer in Pekin on December 1, 1951, she preceded him in death on August 17, 1984. He is survived by his children; Robert Lee (JoAnn) Shepler of Normal, Karen J. Shepler of Peoria Heights, Robin A. (William) Zimmerman of Pekin, brothers; Jack (Marjorie) Shepler and Richard (Marlene) Shepler both of Pekin, grandchildren; Robbie Shepler of Lincoln, Brandon and Breanna Zimmermen both of Pekin, great grandsons; Keagen and twins Cameron and Kaleb Zimmerman all of Pekin and longtime companion Alma Dalcher of Pekin. Bob graduated from Miami Teck High School in 1944, attended the University of Florida at Miami, graduated from Bradley with a degree in Architecture, served in the Army during WWII, was a self employed Plumber and Co-founder of E.F. Shepler & Sons Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where he served as a longtime Usher and assisted with counting of the weekly offerings. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #3507, VFW and a former member of the ELKS and Plumber’s Local #63 Peoria. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday January 5, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Timothy Nolan will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 with a rosary at 7:30 at Abts Mortuary on Friday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus #3507 or St. Joseph Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Abts Mortuary.
