Robert T. Burton Sr., (Bob) 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Manito, Illinois, on December 18, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth, Richard and his twin Roger.
Born on October 30, 1939, Bob was the second-born identical twin to Buril B. Burton and Alvina Fitch Camp.
He graduated from Woodruff High School in Peoria, Illinois, as part of the Class of 1958. Shortly after graduation, Bob began his career as a security guard at Pabst Brewery in Peoria Heights before transitioning to Caterpillar Inc., where he worked as a maintenance painter for 40 years.
Following his retirement, Bob pursued his passion for restoring historical homes in the Moss Avenue district of Peoria Ill., a project he found deeply fulfilling.
Bob married Carol M. Everett in 1968, and together they had two children before divorcing in 1975. Carol preceded him in death. In 1980, he married Marjorie A. Bailey, who also preceded him in death.
Throughout his life, Bob cultivated a wide range of interests and hobbies. He was an avid collector of antiques, particularly glassware, and took pride in caring for his houseplants, including his cherished night-blooming cactus. He enjoyed traveling, playing the lottery, and spending time with family at gatherings—especially Halloween, where he delighted in dressing up and entertaining loved ones with his costumes and humor. Bob enjoyed playing games with grandchildren and playfully terrorizing them. Bob also enjoyed camping trips and annual Missouri float trips. Known for his generosity and skill with drywall and painting projects, he often lent a helping hand to family and friends. Bob was an avid smoker and a connoisseur of wine. He was the life of the party.
Bob is survived by his brother Ronald Burton Sr (Janet) of Peoria Il. and his children, Robert T. Burton Jr. (Kim) of Madison, Wisconsin, and Sherrie Corder (Tony) of Manito, Illinois; 2 stepchildren Dan Bailey (Mandi) and Kelli MacIntyre (Brian), both of Pekin, Illinois; as well as 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
