Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Whelan
Robert L. "Bob" Whelan was born March 9,1926 in Peoria, Illinois to Francis E. and Myrtle Hill Whelan. He married Mary Regina Blackmore on October 14th 1950 in Kickapoo, Illinois. She survives, also surviving are three sons. Michael L. Chillicothe, Illinois, Robert P. ( Vicki) Bartonville, IL., Dan B (Ellen) Manito, IL., A brother Donald E.(Mary) Elmwood, IL. Six grandchildren, Kathleen, Robert A (Tiffany) Ryan, Nicholas, Elizabeth, and Heather, and four Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Frances Stenger. He served in the US Army in Europe during WW 2 as a half track driver in the 16th armored division. He was awarded The Bronze Star. He was a member of VFW Post 2602, Peoria Heights, Illinois and St. Thomas Church. Cremation has been accorded and a Memorial Mass will be held on Friday July 3, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights at 7 p.m. Msgr William Watson will officiate with military rites following the service. Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Church or OSF St. Francis Hospice. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. is assisting the family with arrangements.
